What’s the Weather Like in the Philippines?

By in Philippines Travel Guide

The popular travel destination – the Philippines is commonly characterized as having unparalleled tropical weather year-round. While one can find leisurely paradises any time of the year, climates and seasons affect different parts of this country. Thus, before embarking on a Filipino adventure, one should consider the weather to ensure the ultimate getaway.

The best way to plan a trip to the Philippines is by first picking the desired month or destination. People who want to visit in a given month should find out what regions will have the best weather. Similarly, to visit a specific place, find out what type of weather can be found in different months.

TWO SEASONS

There are two main seasons: dry and wet. Since the Philippines has a tropical climate throughout, the dry season does not mean that it will not rain, but rather that it will not rain as much. Nevertheless, some say that it is always summer in the Philippines because rain showers are typically brief.

Dry Season

Also known as the dry monsoon, this season typically runs from October through May and is best to experience in the northern and central Visayas, as the south may have too much rain. Some ideal destinations during the dry season include Bohol, Boracay, and Cebu.

Wet Season

A wet season takes hold from June through September, bringing in plenty of rain. It is also referred to as the wet monsoon, which is when wind yields heavy rain, particularly in Southeast Asia. During this time, travelers certainly want to visit the southern Visayas and enjoy their endless beauty by a relaxing beach or impressive sight of nature. Of course, some people may also appreciate a quick cooling rain shower as they admire vast sights of nature under a lovely rainbow.

FOUR CLIMATE TYPES

There are four main climates throughout the Philippines, all involving tropical weather and based on the amount of rainfall. Type 1 climate is dry from November through April and wet the rest of the year. Type 2 has no dry season and heavier rainfall from November through April. Type 3 does not have pronounced seasons and is fairly dry during the dry monsoon. Type 4 climate is usually only found in higher-altitude areas, and its rainfall is distributed throughout the year. Since these climate regions are affected quite differently by the dry/wet seasons, it’s certainly a good idea to learn about their weather before visiting.

WARM VS. COLD MONTHS

Interestingly, the warm months overlap with the wet season from March through October, which can make humidity more prominent in certain regions. The winter monsoon makes November through February colder, which further encourages the idea to visit northern and central Visayas during these months. It is hottest during May and coldest during January, yet one can still find regions with amazing weather.

To put it simply, the best months to visit any region are when rainfalls subdue. One can find a great weather in virtually any region of the Philippines. All it takes is some planning ahead and one can be on their way to experience the ultimate paradise-like vacation.
